Ok, well the Cubs are sucking it up aren't they? Hate to be negative but this could be a very quick exit from the playoffs. If that happens, I can't imagine this not going back to Lou's game 1 blunder. I'm just a spectator but that seems just moronic.

My thoughts on game 1 are this: Pulling Z was not a mistake. He did make a huge mistake leaving him in to hit with the bases loaded, even though Z was the only hitter in the game to have an extra base hit.
That said, Webb was dealing, and it was going to be damn near impossible to score on him. Even if Z pitches an inning or 2 more, they probably don't win that game. Also, Marmol had only given up 1 run in his previous 20IP. He had been absolutely dealing. No reason to think he'd fail here.
I think Lou's thinking in this situation was that (and it obviously didn't work out, but at the time was legit), we should win tomorrow with Lilly facing a putrid Doug Davis. Having a fresh Z, even on 3 days rest is a plus and they should win that game too. And they'd be the favorite with Rich Hill on the mound and not have to deal with Webb again who is pitching in game 5.
My main contention is that he should have PH for him if he's going to pull him. But I don't think, with the way Marmol had been pitching, you could say pulling him from the mound was a mistake.
