Remember the Seinfeld where Kramer and Newman's scheme is to make money by taking bottles from New York and driving them to Michigan where there is a 10 cent refund rather than the 5 cents refund on bottle deposits? Well, turns out people actually try to pull this off! And Michigan doesn't think it's funny.

The haunting memories of lost love. May I? Lights.

Our eyes met across the crowded hat store. I, a customer, and she a coquettish haberdasher. Oh, I pursued and she withdrew, then she pursued and I withdrew, and so we
danced.

Thanks. That was me. Want to make a lot of money fast?

Step #1: Sell everything you own. Sell it all. Stocks, bonds, real estate. eBay your couch, your dog. Everything.

Step #2: Then convert it all into pre-1982 copper pennies.

Step #3: Meltdown the pennies.

Step #4: Sell the copper.

Step #5: Now use the proceeds to buy back all the stuff you sold. You’ll have more than enough left over.

The material in a pre-1982 penny is currently worth about 2-1/2 cents.

Wow Jeff that sounds so easy, I'm going to go do that now! I can't believe I've wasted all this time working like an ordinary schmuck when all I need is a smelter and a few million pennies to make my dreams come true!

Unfortunately it is illegal, but don't let that stop you!

if you think michigan is pissed when one tries to return unreturnable cans, you should see how the state of oklahoma reacts when you boost a couple of thousands of cans off of handicapped kids.

i don't know how the latter state actually reacts, but i've heard their remedies are real and spectacular.

The state of michigan will not apologize for it's deposit return policy.
