I am so out of it. I've never heard of ANY of these groups.

OK - I've heard of Ben Folds. I don't live in that deep of a cave. And a friend of mine told me about Son Volt like 8 or 10 years ago...

That's alright Agent B, you probably have more of a life than I do!

Good picks. I've got a few of them. I'll check out the rest. You might find this comic humorous.

Hipster Trap

I don't really see the appeal of Son Volt. I think Wilco profited more from the Uncle Tupelo break-up.

Hey anon, thanks for the comic. That's great! I understand what you are saying about Son Volt and you're right about Wilco. I think they are a much better band. I don't know why I like Son Volt. I guess it's just Jay Farrar's voice and some of his songwriting. I thought the album was pretty good, and it surprised me so that's why it's on there. What else did you like this year?

I think I'll check out the new Son Volt album. I've only heard their earlier stuff.

I haven't bought many new albums this year. The local library has a pretty good collection so I've just been borrowing from there. The only three that I can think of are:

White Stripes Get Behind Me Satan
Spoon Gimme Fiction
Over the Rhine Drunkard's Prayer

I really want to hear Drunkard's Prayer. I've heard great things about it. It was just one of those albums I forgot about this year. The Spoon album hasn't really grown on me yet. I LOVE their single I Turn My Camera On. I think it's freaking awesome but after that I haven't really been able to grasp on to anything. I will have to give it another listen. Thanks!

looking forward to seeing your picks Kirk!

MMMmmmm music. I think you give Plans a little too much weight. :)

but other than that i completely agree with your pics. (at least, the 40% that i have recollection of.)

I got to see Andrew Bird open for Nickel Creek (who should be on your list, btw) earlier this month, and was just floored by his stuff. tre magnifique.

Dope list, yo. I love any list that has two Ryan Adams albums, but 'Jacksonville' over 'Illinois' was a tough pick, but you stuck your neck out and I respect it. I know Sufjan got all the hype and Ryan's kind of the underdog (in a backward sort of way), but I think most importantly, your pick speaks to the raw and pure subjectivity of music. Your experience with the sound trumps all and that's all that matters in the end. Thanks for keepin' it real. Seacrest out.
