I'll answer my own survey.

1. The Decemberists. I know they are getting a lot of Indie press right now but I still don't think they get near the credit they deserve. They are some of the most talented musicians i have seen live and their albums are solid musically, lyrically and artistically.

2. Bright Eyes - I know i would get some grief about this but I saw him at Bowery Ballroom after "Lifted" was released and he annoyed the hell out of me. I think his voice is awful. His performance of "When the President Talks To God" should have ended his career, not because I disagreed with the statement he was making, but that it just sounded like the worst piece of trash i've ever heard in music history. That seems harsh, but i can't express how much I loathe this waste of a hipster. We must move on.

3. Ryan Adams - Cold Roses. This is simply phenomenal. Beautiful in almost every way an album can be beautiful. Can't wait to hear his two other releases this year!

4. Definitely Switchfoot "Nothing is Sound." You'll hear more about why this is the case soon. Horrible album. Moving on once again.

5. I would like to see Ryan Adams live in an intimate setting. I've seen him at a big park but that's it and i'm not going to pay to see him in a big theatre or auditorium. I will get to see him in a small venue someday, i know it.

1. Who is the most UNDERrated artist in music right now?

I might have echoes your idea, but in light of your choice, i must pick another. As always, I put Badly Drawn Boy, because he is a genius on par with Brian Wilson.

I would add ben Folds, who would be bigger than Elton John if this era appreciated his style of music and writing.

The rest of my runners up include Jim White, Joseph Arthur, the Divine Comedy and CoheedandCambria

2. Who is the most OVERrated artist in music?
Ryan Adams (sorry). He is a fine songwriter, but not the god some find him (I see him as the flip side to Bright Eyes). If he focused on each song instead of trying to put out 20 albums per year, I would like him better (reminds me of Bill Malonee from VOL in this respect).

3. What is your favorite album of 2005 so far?

Latest Ben Folds (songs for Silverman). When he releases an album, all is better in the world.

4. What was your biggest disappointment of an album this year?

latest System of a Down- a few great songs, but a little disjointed, immature and crass at times.

5. What would you like to see live the most?

I have seen many of my favorites, so early Clash, Public Enemy or Rage Against the Machine, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill or late 60s Cash

you know you're right about Ben Folds Rick. He got no publicity for that last album whatsoever and I thought it was phenomenal. I think i've listened to it about 294,365 times since it came out. I do enjoy Joseph Arthur as well, although he's got the same, "i'm a weirdo but i'm awesome singer/songwriter" thing going on as Ryan Adams does. Ryan Adams is a jackass but I try to put that aside because I love his music so much. it would be nice if he were more of a song selector though. There was easily 5 songs he could have cut off of Cold Roses and made a 1 disc LP. I also agree he should probably not put out 73 albums in one year. Kind of ridiculous. I did see him live once and I wanted to kill him. He talked about how good water is for about 7 minutes. I almost burned his cd's when I got home.

I agree that performance of When the President Talks to God on leno was the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. It made so pissed I spit.

i just came back here because I was reading your Top 10 of the year. I noticed Coldplay on it and remember that you sat quietly while I disparaged the latest coldplay at our house.

I remember thinking afterwards, "I wonder if he likes the new coldplay?"

Now I know.
