It seems like...

...like Republicans are always one step behind.

Dems have Hillary Clinton, Pubs respond with Sarah Palin.

Dems have Obama, Pubs respond with Steele.

I'm noticing a trend developing.

Not so sure that's an accurate assessment. The argument could be made that Republicans were the first party to have a woman on a Presidential ticket. Also, the first two African-American Secretaries of State (Powell and Rice) served under a Republican administration (Bush). Still, I'm not ignorant. Palin was definitely a reactionary move, but I'd say it was more of a reaction to Obama - putting a previously unrepresented voting segment on the ticket. Of course, that wasn't hard to do for either party.

I'd be interested to see a historic report comparing the number of minorities and women elected or appointed to national posts within each party. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers were close. Regardless, the Dems have won the PR campaign in this area.

Oops. That's right. Those who don't know their history probably shouldn't try to make a useless point about it.
